*IMPORTANT NOTES: - Please keep in mind that while people in Rome can be very laid back and friendly sometimes that reflects in a not impeccable service in restaurants: distracted waiters, long waits fo the bill, etc. Have an open mind and don't take things personally, Rome belongs to its own galaxy, lol.
- TIPPING POLICY: though tipping in Italy (in restaurants) is not mandatory it doesn't mean that people don't tip! It's usually expected especially in touristy areas and in general it's customary when the service is good (in this case it's kind of rude not to tip). Some restaurants might still charge the service fee (which includes bread) but not a single cent of that money goes into the waiter's pocket. You might take that into account if the service fee is too high (over 2.50 per person) and reduce the tip which is usually 5-10% of the total bill. Also, feel totally free not to tip when you receive poor service.
Restaurants: 5-10%
Tour Guides: 10%
Coffee/breakfast at a bar/cafe: a few cents
(usually to round up the small bill)
Cabs: no tipping required unless you really feel like. My advice is to use
Uber.
